EduKick Soccer Boarding School Alumnus: From Madrid to Harvard

One EduKick Madrid alum now plays soccer for Harvard's varsity team. This is her story.

Oakville, Ontario, Canada, September 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Harvard varsity soccer player Caroline Kutler began her international soccer adventure as a sophomore on the high school varsity soccer team. Kutler and a few teammates had taken Spanish classes, and were looking for a fun travel opportunity.

"My friend found EduKick and said 'Look, we can play soccer in Spain!'" said Kutler. "All of us just jumped at the idea."

Kutler says playing against other students in the EduKick international soccer program helped her gain confidence and strength.

"I think it's definitely helped me grow as a player and a person," she said. "It just was great to play against girls doing the same thing as you but in a different country, seeing what the soccer culture was like."

Now attending Spanish classes in her junior year at Harvard, Kutler plays on the school's varsity soccer team. She plans to visit Madrid again soon to continue the EduKick experience.

"EduKick was such a perfect balance between learning soccer and practicing Spanish every day," Kutler said. "It got me so excited about soccer and Spanish culture. I'm such a huge soccer fan; to be there and play with them was amazing."

Living in EduKick's Madrid boarding school, Kutler and her friends experienced Spanish culture and history firsthand.

"I really enjoyed the culture of interacting with the coaches and the Spanish people," she said. "We got to just absorb it all. I had an amazing time doing all our day trips; going to a restaurant and ordering in Spanish, seeing what food they eat. We went to museums and towns, saw the architecture and history."

Kutler recommends the program to other rising soccer stars.

"I would say definitely go for it. I think it's such a unique experience," she said. "It was a great introduction to being in a different country, different culture, using that language, and getting a different perspective on soccer.

"It definitely made me a more well-round player. I miss the people I was with on the program. It was so much fun."
