Pinnacle Health Group Releases August 2009 Survey
70% recruiters and physicians say recruiting is difficult.
Atlanta, GA, September 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- As an ongoing campaign in improving the industry, Pinnacle Health Group conducted a survey examining the challenges in physician recruiting today. The survey, which was stretched between June 28, July 17 and August 1, 2009, queried 500 in-house recruiters and 500 physicians from across the country. It was concluded with a 20% (200) response rate. Please note that this survey is one of the most updated information from Pinnacle Health Group, and hasn’t been published until now.
The survey explored the situation of physician recruiting between 2008 and 2009. Most respondents were steadfast in saying that recruiting physicians today is more difficult than last year, which peaked at 70.4% unlike the 29.6% who countered otherwise.
Of the reasons why recruiting was more challenging, Pinnacle Health Group listed the two dominant factors respondents consider. Indeed, the shortage in physicians today concurred as half of the respondents point to the diminishing supply and increasing demand of physicians (50%). More than a third also considers compensation-related issues to be of concern (35%). Physician preferences, especially practice location and workload, were also noted by the respondents (15%).
Recruiters were asked to list what they currently do to address these challenges. Here, they were given the liberty to list more than one option. Expanding their sourcing and marketing campaigns capped at 63%, while retention strategies and coordination with local physician communities tied at 44.4%. Partnering with recruitment firms lagged at 33.3%, while others, which is at 3.7%, noted that they are revamping their recruiting process (interviews, employment model, et al).
Less than a third (29.6%) strongly agrees that their recruiting efforts are working, while more than a half of them (51.9%) vaguely agree so. Dissenting views were at 18.5%.
Surveyed respondents were also given the option to spark discussion concerning physician recruiting today. They were categorized for collation purposes: increased rate of employing physicians today, and the flexibility of practices offered to physicians. Recruiters gave insights such as addressing “shift-work” mentality, and identifying practice preferences before sourcing doctors.
