Independent Tests Show That Corona Clipper Pruners and Loppers Outperform the Competition
Tests compared the durability, blade hardness and corrosion resistance of 23 products.
Corona, CA, September 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Independent analysis from a third-party testing facility now shows that handheld pruners and loppers manufactured by Corona Clipper significantly outperform competing products in the same categories. Rigorous tests performed earlier this year determined that Corona's hand pruners (models BP 6590 and BP 3180) and loppers (AL 4110 and AL 3341) are both easier to use and more durable than similar products from other manufacturers.
In December 2008, Corona commissioned a comparison study with an independent testing facility in Buffalo, New York. This study included a competitive analysis of 23 different handheld pruners and loppers from Corona and two other leading hand tool manufacturers. Technicians divided the 23 tools into groups based upon the style of the pruner or lopper, cutting capacity (as advertised by the manufacturer) and mechanical features such as being gear-driven or lever-assisted.
Over the next few months, technicians evaluated the cutting capacity, durability, blade hardness and corrosion resistance of the 23 tools. All tools were also measured for weight, overall length, jaw thickness and their ability to live up to the cutting performance claims listed on their promotional packaging.
To test the durability of the tools, the research facility purchased 2,500 oak dowels sized at the mid-point of each tool's claimed cutting capacity (3/8", 1/2" or 3/4" diameters). Each tool's durability ranking was based on the change in the amount of force the tool required to cut through each of the 2,500 dowels, along with observations of any failures (such as loose pivots and bent jaws) that occurred during testing. Those tools that required less of a change in force needed to cut the dowels, from the very first cut to the 2,500th cut, were ranked highest in durability. This method of durability testing also enabled technicians to determine which tools were the easiest to use, as a lower "force to cut" measurement is considered to be indicative of easier cutting throughout the life of the product.
At the conclusion of testing, Corona's AL 4110 and AL 3341 lopper models and BP 6590 and BP 3180 hand pruners were found to be easiest to use and most durable in their respective testing categories. In the Lopper division, Corona's AL 4110 and AL 3341 models required the least amount of force to cut the 2,500 dowels. The AL 4110 was the clear winner, requiring approximately 34 pounds of force to cut the dowels at the beginning of the testing process and 36 pounds at its conclusion--a very small fluctuation over time--making it not only the easiest to use, but the most durable of all the loppers tested.
In the Hand Pruner category, Corona tools again came out on top, with the Corona BP 6590 and BP 3180 hand pruners ranked numbers one and two respectively in both durability and ease of use. The BP 6590 required approximately 38 pounds of force to cut the first dowel and 40 pounds of force to cut the 2,500th.
"We're obviously very pleased with the results of this competitive analysis," said Jim Wolf, Corona's vice president of marketing. "While some of the other tools couldn't even make it halfway through the durability test, Corona's tools not only held up, they performed virtually as well on the 2,500th cut as they did on the very first."
According to Wolf, Corona plans to keep testing both its new and established tool lines to ensure years of productivity for customers. "At Corona, we place a great deal of emphasis on manufacturing the best possible tool for a reasonable price," Wolf added. "Moving forward, it's important for us to keep creating new benchmarks as we strive to improve product performance and overall value."
