Mike Dennis Novel, "The Take," to be Published by L&L Dreamspell
Hardboiled noir novel of human desperation slated for publication in 2010.
Las Vegas, NV, September 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Mike Dennis, Las Vegas author, has announced that his crime novel, "The Take," will be released in 2010 by L&L Dreamspell Publishing.
"The Take" is a compact noir tale of ordinary people, minor players in society, caught up in extraordinary circumstances and emotions.
Eddie Ryan, a small-time bookie operating in the rough-and-tumble East End section of Houston, has just lost a bundle on the World Series. For him, there's only one way out: a phone call to a local loan shark. This triggers a sequence of events which will soon send him running to save his own skin.
Complicating matters is the presence of two strong women. One is Felina, the Mexican beauty he has always desired, and the other is Linda, his older sister and the power figure in his life since early childhood.
True to the noir tradition, there are no clear-cut "good guys" in the novel; only the cop cars and the TVs are black and white, while everything else swirls in a kind of gray soup. Overcome by greed, lust, and the survival instinct, Eddie Ryan plunges into a morally treacherous world where no one can be trusted, and where life expectancy is short. Set in the dim half-light of the Houston and New Orleans demimondes, "The Take" is a fast-paced, nerve-jangling ride.
Mike Dennis is a former professional musician and poker player. His short story, "Pickup Across The River", was recently published at the crime fiction website, A Twist Of Noir. Another of his short stories, "Block", will be appearing in the upcoming 2009 Wizards Of Words Anthology. His website is http://mikedennisnoir.com.
