My College Options Names Renowned Math Educator James M. Rubillo to Research Advisory Board
Lee's Summit, MO, September 23, 2009 --(PR.com)-- My College Options today announced the appointment of James M. Rubillo to the organization’s Research Advisory Board. Rubillo brings more than 30 years experience in education from both classroom and executive administration levels. He last served the mathematics community as the Executive Director of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics(NCTM).
Rubillo’s appointment to the My College Options Research Advisory Board was made by the National Research Center for College & University Admissions™ (NRCCUA®). As a division of NRCCUA, MyCollegeOptions.org was developed to help guide students through the college evaluation and selection process and connect them with colleges and universities.
“The appointment of Jim to our Research Board further enables us to provide the most comprehensive research that is critical to better understanding the education process from the student, parent and administrator perspective,” said Ryan Munce, Vice President, MCO. “Rubillo will be able to provide critical insight and recommendations that can positively influence math curricula throughout the country.”
Rubillo’s role on the Research Advisory Board will be to monitor, advise and direct future research projects conducted by NRCCUA and My College Options. The findings and results from the dozens of annual, national studies and articles published each year serve the needs of students and families; higher education and educational associations; student organizations, and community based organizations.
“I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my life where I can continue to work with leaders in the education field and lend my experience to the organization for the benefit of the next generation of educators and students,” said Jim Rubillo.
During his tenure at NCTM, Jim led the creation and subsequent publishing of NCTM’s ‘Curriculum Focal Points for Prekindergarten through Grade 8: A Quest for Coherence’ which identifies the most important mathematical topics for each grade level. He has also framed high-level policy discussions about the need for greater coherence in mathematics curriculum. Rubillo also served on the NCTM Board of Directors, was the chairperson of NCTM regional conferences, and was an annual meeting program committee member.
