LifeBound Signs Exclusive Agreement with National Tutoring Association

LifeBound Training and Certification for Academic Coaching Skills signed an exclusive agreement with The National Tutoring Association (NTA).

Denver, CO, September 19, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The National Tutoring Association (NTA) signed an exclusive agreement with LifeBound Training and Certification for Academic Coaching Skills (LBTC).  NTA is the leading association for academic tutoring in the nation. The 15,000 member group is made of both K-12 and college tutors. NTA provides a wealth of resources and tools to help tutors fully develop their professional skills.

LifeBound is the nation’s premier publisher, seminar and coaching provider for student success programs. Carol Carter, president and founder, is a national expert on academic, emotional and social intelligence in young adults. Her Keys to Success series is widely used in colleges in the US, Canada and Mexico while LifeBound’s success programs operate in middle schools and high schools.

"Partnering with LifeBound will energize our leadership team and expand our mission to advocate for certification and advancement of the tutoring profession," explains Dr. Sandi Ayaz, the executive director of NTA.

The partnership makes sense considering coaching skills are credited for boosting student motivation and learning - skills needed to combat the following statistics:

• Among high school students, of minorities, 50% drop out. Overall it's 1 out of 3.  Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

• Of students who are going to college, more than 40% are doing remedial work.  Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

• 1 out of 4 college freshmen drop out or “stop out”* (*students transfer to another school or postpone the goal to earn a four-year degree). ACT

A recent article by The Chronicle of Higher Education (9/8/06), “When the Freshmen Bubble Pops,” infers coaching strategies to help boost student motivation and retention.

NTA board member Avery Austin, who completed LifeBound’s training program, added: "Human connectedness is a must for true motivation. Coaching helps tutors make that personal connection with their students as individuals and not as a grade or test score."

“We want to offer tutors resources to understand the emotional component to learning,” says LifeBound president, Carol Carter. “Coaching is a powerful tool for advisors and tutors because it teaches students to access their own internal motivation.”
