Purgatory Cellars/White owl Winery Wins Another Award in Consumer Judged Wine Competition
This is a rare competition where actual consumers judge the wine.
Birds, IL, September 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Purgatory Cellars/White Owl Winery, (whiteowlwinery.com) of Birds, Illinois has just been informed that another of their wines has received a medal in the 16th Annual Wine Lovers International Wine Competition held August 21 -23 in Washington, D.C.
The wine to take a bronze medal for Purgatory Cellars/White Owl Winery was $5 Buck Huck. The Five Buck Huck wine is a private label wine that Purgatory Cellars/White Owl Winery created, crafts and bottles for Martin and Bayley Inc., owners of Huck’s Convenience Stores and Save a Lot Grocery stores, located throughout the Midwest.
According to Purgatory Cellars/White Owl Winery marketing Director, Joy Neighbors, “This wine competition is very unique and very informative for us. Actual consumers are the judges. This gives you a more informed idea of how the public really views your wines.”
The judging panel consisted of Tasters Guild Consumer Members from all across the country. The consumer judges were monitored by experienced wine judges who were available to answer questions. They did not influence the consumer panels judging decisions. Consumers were given instructions on the basics of wine judging at several seminars held before they began. This different approach to a wine competition educates consumers in recognizing quality wine values and gives the industry a reference for consumer taste. Wines were judged on characteristics such as clarity, color, aroma, mouth-feel and taste.
