Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan Awards More Than $1 Million in Grants to Area Nonprofit Organizations
Detroit, MI, September 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (www.cfsem.org) approved $1,043,379 in grants to nonprofit organizations working to improve the quality of life in the region. The Board approved the grants at its September meeting. The following organizations are among those receiving grants from the Community Foundation:
• Warren/Conner Development Coalition, Detroit, $60,000 to support an after-school arts education program
• Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit, $52,831 to support an intergenerational oral history and digital video program with African American elders
• YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, Detroit, $30,000 to support a community choir
• Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, $25,000 to support the Michigan Cover the Uninsured Network’s campaign to increase access to health care for uninsured children in southeast Michigan
• Area Agency on Aging 1-B, Southfield, $7,500 to support a personal emergency response system for older adults and persons with disabilities
• Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County, Ann Arbor, $60,000 to support a caregiving center
• Northeast Guidance Center, Detroit, $50,000 to support curriculum development and mental health worker training
• Food System Economic Partnership, Ann Arbor, $50,000 to support the Farm to School program in Wayne County
