First Upscale Hotel Opens in Beaufort SC. City Loft Hotel - Where Modern Urban Luxury Meets Southern Charm
First upscale, modern hotel now open in one of America's most beloved towns and travel destinations, Beaufort SC. City Loft Hotel, which sits on one of the city's main downtown streets, was designed with the urban traveler in mind and boasts modern design and amenities.
Atlanta, GA, September 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In the heart of Beaufort, South Carolina, one of the most beloved small towns in America, sits a new downtown icon, City Loft Hotel – the city’s first upscale boutique hotel situated on popular Carteret Street and walking distance from the historic sites and sounds of downtown Beaufort. A perfect pairing of sleek style and down home southern charm, the innovative hotel offers 23 guest rooms with a distinct urban feel to make visitors feel both at home and in touch.
City Loft Hotel offers the latest in urban design and amenities including free Wi-Fi, well-appointed rooms with large soaking tubs, glass showers, flat screen TVs in both the bedroom and bathroom, memory foam beds, iPod lamps, club chairs, work stations and a state of the art workout facility, City Fit. Guests can enjoy the luxury of morning room service delivery from City Java & News, the adjoining coffee shop, which offers an extensive array of gourmet coffee and the newspaper of your choice including The New York Times, USA Today or The Beaufort Gazette. In the evening, the hotel offers carry out room service from several of Beaufort's finest restaurants. The Guest Services staff is on hand 24-7 to make dinner reservations, set up tee times and arrange carriage or walking tours of the city’s top attractions.
According to owner and real estate entrepreneur Matt McAlhaney, he drew on his extensive travels when creating the blueprint for the hotel. “Whenever I travel there’s a vibe and an energy to the places we stay so we wanted to create that here while also being in a key location that would appeal to travelers and locals alike. I asked myself, ‘if I were I were visiting Beaufort, where would I stay?’ The short answer was that there was nothing that appealed to the urban vibe I would want while visiting a hip, thriving art community like Beaufort.”
While proposing a young, modern building design is not an easy task in a city entrenched in history, McAlhaney worked hand in hand with the Historic District Review Board. The existing building, which was formerly a Red Carpet Inn, had a 60s flavor to it so McAlhaney used that as inspiration. “We wanted to evolve it into a sleek exterior design with large Bermuda shutters, sleek thin metal railings with classic chocolate IPE wood (pronounced ‘epay’ – a sustainable wood from Brazil) on top and flowing white sunbrella fabric lining the exterior corridor from ceiling to floor. That was not an easy proposal for the historic district, so getting it approved was an arduous task. There was a great deal of give and take. In the end I was appreciative of the input of the board and the building was ultimately approved.”
Customers are already raving about the hotel and McAlhaney plans to expand its offerings to include a restaurant in the future.
City Loft is located a block from Bay Street in downtown Historic Beaufort on Carteret, the main route to Lady's Island, St. Helena's and all beaches.
