Gothtober Goes to the Drive-in

Dedicated to the fun and excitement of All Hallows Eve, Gothtober.com is truly something to look forward to as the world's only, time-release art gallery/advent calendar counting down the days to October 31st.

Los Angeles, CA, September 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- If the sudden arrival of grocery store pumpkins and hay bale mazes has you sulkily wondering where the year has gone, flip things on their head with the 7th Annual Gothtober Countdown Calendar, launching October 1. Dedicated to the fun and excitement of All Hallows Eve, Gothtober.com is truly something to look forward to as the world's only, time-release art gallery/advent calendar counting down the days to October 31st - Halloween.

The 2009 Gothtober.com season promises to unveil 31 fresh new vignettes featuring the unusual mixture or songs, recipes, photos, crafts, drawings, films and other forms of artistic expression for which the calendar is known.

This year, the calendar's optional theme is Drive-In Movie. "The theme is incidental, in case anyone needs inspiration, but no artists are told what they can or cannot create," says Julianna Parr, creative director and mastermind of the website. "I wanted to choose a theme evoking a bygone era involving monsters, darkness and a habitually inexpensive pastime. The Drive-In was such a novelty, so many of them are closed now, this year's Gothtober is a love letter to all the outdoor nighttime cinemas that are no longer running, as well as to the ones still going today."

When asked what creepy crawlies might be lurking behind each door, Parr replied, "Your guess is as good as mine! We don't believe in censorship. Gothtober is built as a community service site for people to look at and enjoy the wild and crazy diversity during the spookiest time of the year."

She continues, "Artists participate for the love of making art. And while not everything is suited for every viewer, and while some things may be offensive or even confusing, it’s Halloween art and it’s supposed to be weird and scary."

Featured this season are pieces by animator Billy Kheel, a recipe by SLO Cooking, paper folding crafts from Lush Newton, an instructional movie from "Art of Bleeding", as well as works from film makers Christine Panushka, Amy Lockhart, Lori Meeker and Barry Morse. Complete bios of all the artists will be available when the calendar launches October 1st.
