About Women on Board:
Established in April 2009, Women on Board is a program of the North Carolina Center for Women in Public Service. The North Carolina Center for Women in Public Service, a nonprofit, multipartisan organization, prepares women to seek and serve in elected and appointed offices, advocates for systems and infrastructure to facilitate women’s involvement, and promotes the value of women in governance. The Women on Board program is a four-prong approach to increasing the number of women on the boards and commissions of North Carolina. The program focuses on systems improvements coupled with the preparation and presentation of individual candidates for appointed positions. Research shows that women bring unique skills and values to public service, including a more inclusive approach to policy-making, greater transparency of the process, and a focus on issues relating to women, children, and families.
