U S Building Consultants, Inc. Considers Homeowners the Winners with New Certified Protocols

The homeowners wanted back the value of their homes and they wanted assurance that the fix was not going to be a band-aid type repair. Armed with this information, USBCI and the DDIA launched a six month pursuit in designing a cost effective protocol that would insure homeowners would only have to go through this nightmare once. Spending 90% of the time on the solution and 10 % of the time on the problem.

U S Building Consultants, Inc. Considers Homeowners the Winners with New Certified Protocols
Gainesville, FL, October 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Spiderman S. Mulholland, a leading forensic expert on building envelope, water intrusion, toxic mold, and Chinese Drywall of U S Building Consultants, Inc. (USBCI), takes on the challenges of developing another national protocol for the construction industry for Chinese or other defective drywall. Mr. Mulholland, with the help of a workgroup called Defective Drywall in America (DDIA) and the Building Envelope Science Institute (BESI), have worked day and night to bring about a cost effective protocol that helps homeowners and builders who have been devastated by the Chinese drywall disaster.

Mr. Mulholland has been in the remediation and the construction industry for over twenty years and has authored two national certification programs. “In all my years in this business, it has never been an acceptable practice to leave tainted, contaminated, or dangerous products and materials in a home or building,” said Mulholland. In the case of Chinese or defective drywall, a twelve industry work group including lawyers, homeowners, realtors, bankers, manufacturers, toxicologist, scientist, chemist, developers, builders, doctors and forensic investigators were asked what they would need for a viable solution to the Chinese drywall crisis.

"Surprisingly, the homeowners’ request proved to be the most difficult'" said Mulholland.

The protocols had to be cost effective for builders, ensure it was not overbearing for the workers, and allow the homes to get back full property value. “It was a lot more difficult than we ever realized,” said Mulholland. The team invested over seven thousand hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars in testing, research and development to come up with the protocols for both inspection and remediation of Chinese or other defective drywall. "There are still a lot of things we do not know," said Mulholland, "but we can effectively remediate and certify homes with a very unique protocol that is guaranteed not to turn your wiring or air conditioner black again."

Mr. Mulholland and the workgroup failed the remediation protocols at least fifteen times before having some success; knowing there had to be a viable solution that addressed all the life safety and human health issues. “The stigma of the homes and disclosure clauses were the real challenge,” said Mulholland.

Mr. Mulholland recently turned to the University of Florida's Rinker Sr. School of Building Construction to help with a very important part in the process. Mr. Mulholland stated that one of the UF professors will present some exciting news at the conference for those that are participating in the certified protocols.

U S Building Consultants, Inc. will be conducting the certification programs created by the Building Envelope Science Institute on October 25 – 27, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport in Orlando, Florida and will offer certifications for the title designation of Certified Defective Drywall Inspector (CDDI), Certified Defective Drywall Consultant (CDDC), Certified Defective Drywall Project Manager (CDDPM) and Certified Defective Drywall Remediator (CDDR).
