Pacific Ridge School Announces New Board Members for 2009-2010 Academic Year

Carlsbad Non-Profit, Independent Middle and High School Welcomes Gary Burdick, Jay Lichter and Roberto Walz to the Board of Trustees.

San Diego, CA, October 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Pacific Ridge School (http://www.pacificridge.org), an independent, non-profit school that fosters academic excellence, ethical responsibility and global engagement to prepare students for college and a purposeful life, welcomes its newly elected Trustees as it enters into its third academic year. The Pacific Ridge School Board of Trustees is a group of dedicated and informed community leaders who are passionate about the value of education and have demonstrated success in a multitude of endeavors.

New Trustees include:

Gary Burdick
Gary Burdick brings expertise in the areas of finance and economics to Pacific Ridge School with professional experience that includes Advisor to the Czech Ministry of Privatization in Prague, Vice President of corporate finance for Lehman Brothers and Goldman Sachs in New York and Los Angeles, and Founder and President of ACC Consumer Finance Corporation – a publicly traded nationwide lender of automobile receivables – until it was acquired by Household International, at which time Mr. Burdick served as Executive Vice President of Household Auto Finance Corp.

Mr. Burdick also serves on the board for several small start-ups. He is a pilot and aircraft owner, volunteering both his time and plane for Angel Flight in the United States and Flying Doctors of Mercy in Mexico.

Mr. Burdick graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Environmental Studies. Today, he resides in Olivenhain with his wife, Mary, and three children. His son attends Pacific Ridge School and his two daughters attend Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary School.

Jay Lichter
Jay B. Lichter, Ph.D. is a biotechnology and pharmaceutical business executive with over 20 years experience in management, scientific research and business development. Dr. Lichter has participated in licensing of merger and acquisition deals valued in excess of $1 billion. He is currently a Managing Director at Avalon Ventures and serves on the Board of Directors of Zacharon Pharmaceuticals, aFRAXis, Inc., Carolus Therapeutics, Otonomy, Inc., Incode BioPharmaceutics and Avelas Biosciences.

Prior to Avalon Ventures, Dr. Lichter served as President and CEO of Akesis Pharmaceuticals and co-founded Sytera, Inc., where he served as the company’s Vice President of Operations and Business Development. He was also co-founder of Sequana Therapeutics and Xenopharm, and has served in management positions at Sequenom, Pfizer and Genset.

Upon completing his Ph.D. in 1990, Dr. Lichter held a postdoctoral position in Human Genetics at Yale University, where he received broad training in areas of classical human genetics, clinical genetics & bioinformatics. During his two-year tenure at Yale, Dr. Lichter continued his postdoctoral work at DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Co. He received a B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

Dr. Lichter and his wife, Suzanne, live in Rancho Santa Fe and have two daughters attending Pacific Ridge School.

Roberto Walz
Roberto Walz founded Walz Properties, a real estate, redevelopment and management company for apartment complexes. Active in his community, Mr. Walz supports organizations and causes that include Kids Corps, the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center, school endowments, SWAT, and police community meetings to help create drug and gang free communities in center cities.

Mr. Walz was born and raised in Guaymas, Mexico and moved to the United States in 1974. He graduated from the University of California Riverside with a degree in Business Economics. Today, he and his wife, Minerva, reside in Rancho Santa Fe and have one child at R. Roger Rowe Elementary School, a daughter at Pacific Ridge School, a son at Sonoma State, and another son who is a recent graduate of Stanford University.
