Chemo Karaoke Launches - Music and Humor for Healing
One woman turns her battle with breast cancer into a CD of funny and inspirational songs.
Albuquerque, NM, October 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- You've never heard “Turn, Turn, Turn” sound like this before. The Pete Seeger standard becomes an anthem for the insomnia that goes hand in hand with cancer treatment on Chemo Karaoke, a collection of popular songs re-imagined for the fight against cancer.
Dealing with cancer treatment is a frightening prospect. When music educator Natalie Kreutzer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, she turned to music and humor to cope with the difficulties and side effects. What started as new lyrics to popular songs, sung to the amusement of her nurses, became a whole album of Chemo Karaoke. “It's about getting my voice and my experience out there to reassure people and to let them know what to expect,” says Kreutzer. “It's to educate people about the effects and suggest a tool for dealing with it all.”
Kreutzer tackles subjects that others would be afraid to touch: the loss of saliva, the forgetfulness of chemo brain and the overall havoc that therapy can wreak on the body. The difficulties are delivered with a cheeky humor that lets listeners know that they are not alone. These catchy songs also provide helpful reminders to stay hydrated and to keep an eye on the ultimate goal of recovery.
Chemo Karaoke appeals to survivors, caregivers and anyone whose life has been impacted by cancer. Says Kreutzer, “I feel like I have a role in helping people deal with this in an upbeat way. The mind/body connection is really strong. If you can laugh and express yourself, you are more likely to get through it.”
The new Chemo Karaoke web site at ChemoKaraoke.com launched on October 1st to coincide with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Chemo Karaoke CDs are available through the site for $15. ChemoKaraoke.com is also a community for people affected by cancer where they can share their personal art and humor through online galleries.
