Author John C. Maxwell is Putting His Readers in His Next Book

Harnessing the power of Web 2.0 & Social Media, John Maxwell is inviting his readers into the writing process. For his next book, Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, John is posting 1 chapter at a time on his blog for questions, additions, objections, & illustrations from readers. Every week until mid-November, anyone can read and share their response. Chapters are taken down after a week, for a whirlwind of editing. But readers can still access synopses & comments for all chapters.

Atlanta, GA, October 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- New York Times best-selling leadership author John C. Maxwell is making the writing of his next book, Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, interactive. He is asking potential readers to add their ideas to the book before it’s published via Twitter, Facebook, and his blog. He’s even including many contributors’ pictures on the cover.

“I’ve invited the public to read drafts of each chapter of the book and tell me what they like, what they don’t like, what I should add, and what I should change,” says Maxwell. “The response has been overwhelming.”

In the month of September, three chapters have been posted on JohnMaxwellonLeadership.com. In that time, the blog received 41,803 views, up from 26,473 the previous month. Those viewers left nearly 650 comments. Most were overwhelmingly positive.

“I appreciate the positive feedback, but I value the constructive criticism even more,” says Maxwell. “This process is really improving the book,” says Maxwell.

“People had great suggestions,” remarks Maxwell. “I’ve already included twenty-one stories and quotes from readers and made dozens of changes to the text because of their suggestions.”

Maxwell also intends to include pictures of his contributors on the cover of the book. He invited everyone who commented on his blog in the month of September to send their photograph to his publisher, Thomas Nelson. The cover designer will include many of those photos in the cover art.

“Because I’m writing a book on connecting, I thought I should try to find a new way to connect with people before the book went to print,” says Maxwell. “I had started blogging and using Twitter back in February, so those were already in place. When it was suggested I use them to solicit input for the book, I thought it was a great idea.”

Maxwell, a respected leadership expert, has written more than fifty books, which have sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. Every year he speaks to Fortune 500 companies, international government leaders, and audiences as diverse as the United States Military Academy at West Point, the National Football League, and ambassadors at the United Nations. He currently has nearly 49,000 followers on Twitter.

“I’m excited to be able to do this,” says Maxwell. “I love connecting with people, and it’s something I do well whether one-on-one or with an audience. And now I’m learning how to connect in an entirely different way using technology. I’m connecting with and adding value to a whole new group of people. What could be better than that?”

Everyone Communicates, Few Connect: What the Most Effective People Do Differently is scheduled to be published on March 30, 2010.
