A Scientific Study by a UOC Open University of Catalonia - the Global Online University’s Professor Awarded the Honour Prize by the European Council for Agricultural Law
Professor in the UOC's Law and Political Science Department, Aura Esther Vilalta, has received the Honour Prize from the European Council for Agricultural Law (CEDR) for the book El Derecho de superfície: la superfície rústica [Land Law: Rustic Land]. The prize-giving ceremony took place at Queen's College, Cambridge, on 26 September.
Barcelona, Spain, October 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The prize is the highest recognition in Europe for scientific research work on land law, and rustic land in particular. This law is an important juridical institution in terms of rural development and environmental sustainability. The Council awarding the prize, the CEDR, is the highest pan-European body on rural law, a non-governmental member of the Council of Europe, and an advisory body to the European Union.
According to Vilalta, this prize represents “achieving another goal in my commitment to the rural world and territorial sustainability.” The author’s work had already been awarded the highest mark, excellent cum laude, unanimously by the jury, when defended as a doctoral thesis at the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Law.
About the book
The book is a study of a traditional institution, land law, which is now seen used strategically in certain economic sectors that are expanding quickly, such as renewable energies, biomass, carbon credits and forestation.
The book was published in Spanish by Bosch in 2008.
