Boyhood Christmas Stories: Family Thread Binds New Short Story Treasury
Brandywine, MD, October 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- A new collection of Christmas stories released by Bob Zuber are wet-your-pants funny. He uses family history and hysterical insights, weaving tales in a refreshing voice. Along with several heart-felt poems, this new author takes readers on an unforgettable journey to Christmas, as seen through childhood eyes.
Zuber was born in New Jersey and moved to Maine as a young boy. His New Jersey memories launches the family car in his father’s boatyard, records being forced to pick dandelions for exploding wine bottles and he braves the cat-clock and fox-pelt to fetch milk and cookies. In Maine he deciphers “Stapubusnhollanuffmit!” and buys Christmas presents from his neighbor who ran the town dump. During his teens the author recalls raising pheasants, loosing bluefish overboard and masterminding the Miss Gypsophila Pageant to improve morale on his uncle’s flower farm.
Through it all the stories consistently return to Christmas and family. Zuber’s last tale lovingly speaks of his favorite decoration, the pink star, which he replaced the hideous red bulbs only to have it explode into a supernova atop his tree. But, as he explains, “Like a star, Christmas creates a gravity with a pull strong enough to draw us together, making us surround each other once a year. For I believe Christmas to be a place, a point of convergence - a constant, indelible place for love to live.”
Linda Rawlings comments, “Bob writes a great story full of word pictures, making you feel you are there.” Marge Porterfield notes, “These stories catch you off-guard and make you laugh out loud.” Author Penny Richards concurs, “I feel like I know these people, and already want to read it again.”
You don’t need to celebrate Christmas to feel the heart tug from Christmas Convergence. You will recognize your own family and remember your own adventures in its pages.
