Hillsborough Community College Student Receives $5,000 Scholarship

Washington, DC, October 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Hillsborough Community College's Hongjie Chen is the recipient of the $5,000 Community College Transition Award.

Chen received this award through The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), an honors organization inviting high-achieving freshmen and sophomores with a GPA of 3.4 and above.

Chen is a junior majoring in Philosophy and will be attending Boston College in spring 2010.

"Hongjie's application stood out immediately because of her inspiring story and determination to overcome hardship," said Lindsay Bowen, member of the NSCS Scholarship Review Committee. "We are excited to support Hongjie in pursuing her ambitions at Boston College."

The Community College Transition Award is awarded to one outstanding NSCS member at a community college who is transferring into a four-year institution.

"We created this new scholarship to help an outstanding community college student ease the transition into a four-year university ," said Cynthia Uguru, NSCS' Manager, Scholarships. "We want to support all of our members in their pursuit of their goals."
