Germaine Galjour Donates Art to Warren Easton Charter Foundation for Upcoming Auction.

Cajun Artist, Germaine Galjour, donates series of work for the upcoming Warren Easton Charter Foundation's auction. Entitled New Orleans Rebirth, this set of 12 whimsical prints captures the spirit that is The Big Easy. Germaine is following the lead presented by Sandra Bullock by contributing to the community as well as being Germaine's own alma mater. Congratulations to the national recognized Warren Easton Senior High for having 100% graduating class for the 2008-2009 school year.

New Orleans, LA, October 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Louisianan artist, Germaine Galjour (class of '66) will participate in the Warren Easton Charter Foundation's forthcoming auction to generate funds for one of the oldest and historic high schools in New Orleans. “I'm donating my New Orleans Rebirth - a series of 12 whimsical art prints depicting the unique aspects of New Orleans which make it a national treasure and world-renowned place of interest.” Germaine continued with, “I'm excited about the auction and look forward to returning to the city that I love. Joining others to help others." These auctions raise funds to provide and support the school's needs. The most recent auction was held in August, thanks to the branches of Gulf Coast Bank.

Germaine is not the first, nor the last, personality to support Warren Easton. There have been hundreds of generous supporters whose determined efforts have funded the needed renovations to the high school due to its devastation from Hurricane Katrina. Just this year, actress/producer Sandra Bullock gave a significant donation to help fund the new school-based health clinic at Easton High. Construction for that project started this past June. Sandra Bullock has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past to help finance college scholarships, to purchase new band uniforms and video equipment and for the total renovation of the high school’s 96 year old auditorium. In addition, her husband Jesse James, Monster Garage star and West Coast Choppers owner, donated a personally autographed $10,000 tool chest for the Gulf Coast Bank’s annual auction this year. The winning bidder helped Easton High to the tune of $6,800.

With its roots going all the way back to 1845, the first public high school for boys in Louisiana was opened in New Orleans. Over the next 22 years, what started as one school had grown into four schools, then consolidated back into a single school. In 1911, property was purchased and construction began at 3019 Canal Street. The new building was named for Warren Easton, the city's and state's first Supervisor of Education.

Warren Easton has always educated the children of the working class of New Orleans. The school has changed in response to the times, becoming co-ed in 1952, integrating in 1967, and becoming a fundamental magnet school in 1977. The school's reputation of academic excellence, high attendance, low drop-out rate and high graduation rate were all factors that earned the school National Blue Ribbon designation by the United States Department of Education. Just recently, the Board of Warren Easton announced that the school was 100% drop out free for the 2008 - 2009 school year. Well done.
