RTI Enhances Real-Time Messaging Quality-of-Service with RTI Data Distribution Service 4.1

New capabilities increase throughput, minimize network and processor overhead

Boston, MA, September 25, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Company, today announced the immediate availability of RTI Data Distribution Service (formerly NDDS) version 4.1, its high-performance messaging and integration solution for real-time applications. RTI Data Distribution Service 4.1 adds enhanced control over messaging Quality-of-Service (QoS) for greater application-specific optimization of throughput, network bandwidth and processor load. These extensions triple the throughput possible on embedded processors and deliver up to 60,000 messages (512-byte) per second with latencies as low as 65 microseconds on a standard PC.

“RTI Data Distribution Service has led the industry in real-time messaging performance for more than eight years,” commented David Barnett, vice president of Product Management for RTI. “The new capabilities we’ve added in version 4.1 extend this lead by giving developers and integrators an even greater ability to optimize performance based on their applications’ specific distributed communication requirements.”

Asynchronous publishing and content filtering are among the advantages of the new RTI Data Distribution Service 4.1. Asynchronous publishing enables higher messaging throughput while minimizing network and processor impact by queuing and aggregating smaller messages into larger ones that are scheduled on the network using a configurable flow-control policy. Content filtering reduces receiver-side processing time and network overhead by allowing applications to specify which messages are required based on message content. Unwanted messages are filtered out before they are sent across the network. In contrast, other messaging solutions require that the receiving application determine if a message is wanted only after it has been delivered and analyzed by the application itself, thus needlessly consuming network and processor bandwidth.

RTI Data Distribution Service 4.1 sets a high standard for performance. With message latency as low as 65 microseconds and throughput up to 20 times higher than other messaging solutions, RTI Data Distribution Service can be used within the most demanding applications. These performance results, in conjunction with broad support across multiple operating systems, platforms and programming languages, make RTI Data Distribution Service the best choice for high-performance, heterogeneous applications.

Compared to other messaging solutions, RTI Data Distribution Service 4.1 includes a much richer set of built-in capabilities based on a powerful data-centric programming model that is configurable via more than 20 QoS policies. This gives applications fine control over the middleware to optimize its real-time behavior, performance and resource utilization. Additionally, because more of the message processing work is done within RTI Data Distribution Service, application logic is simplified and greater efficiency is achieved through an overall reduction in processing and networking overhead.

RTI continues to demonstrate its commitment to standards by ensuring that RTI Data Distribution Service 4.1 is compliant with the latest Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) specification published by the Object Management Group (OMG). RTI remains the leader in defining and implementing the standards that characterize the operation of real-time data distribution.

“As the sophistication of large-scale networks increases, real-time messaging needs grow still more rapidly,” explained Gerardo Pardo-Castellote, chief technology officer of RTI. “We helped drive the OMG DDS standard to the next level of support, and then made sure we were first to market with an implementation of that standard. By demonstrating continued leadership in technology and performance, we reiterate our commitment to system architects and engineers in pushing the limits of real-time data distribution.”
