TiE Detroit Announces Subhendu Guha as Keynote Speaker for TiECon Midwest 2009
Subhendu Guha, the leading inventor of flexible solar shingles will be Keynote Speaker at TiECon Midwest 2009.
Farmington Hills, MI, October 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Detroit chapter of TiE, also known as “Talent, Ideas, Enterprise,” announced today Dr. Subhendu Guha as the keynote speaker for TiECon Midwest 2009, Michigan’s Largest Conference on entrepreneurship to be held October 23 and 24, 2009 at The Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn. The announcement was made today by TiE Detroit President, Tel Ganesan.
According to Tel Ganesan, President TiE Detroit,” Subhendu has made valuable contributions in the field of science and technology of photovoltaic that has great environmental and societal benefits. Subhendu Guha, a scientist noted for his pioneering work in amorphous silicon, is Chairman of United Solar Systems Corporation in Troy, Michigan, the leading inventor of flexible solar shingles, a state-of-the-art technology for converting sunlight to electricity. He has been with United Solar Systems Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturer of flexible solar laminates, since its inception, and the company today employs more than 2000 people worldwide. A scientist by training, Subhendu has received many awards for his contribution to science and technology of photovoltaic (conversion of sunlight into electricity). His company employs more than 1000 people in MI today, and has announced further plans for expansion.
Subhendu Guha's company has received R&D Magazine's "R&D 100" award, which has often been described as the "Nobel Prize of applied research." The importance of Guha's innovation has already been recognized, not only by the U.S. Department of Energy, but by others who are concerned about environmental technologies. In 1996, the flexible solar shingles were named the "Best of What's New," receiving the Grand Award from Popular Science. In 1997, they were selected by a panel of environmental experts for Discover Magazine's Technology Innovation Award.
