The Rock & Shop Market Comes to Durham, NC with a Vintage Twist
Durham, NC, October 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday October 17th over 50 designers will be selling their vintage, upcycled & eco-friendly wares at the Rock & Shop Vintage Market in Durham from 1-5pm. In addition, there will be a fashion show featuring eight Triangle-area designers who specialize in refashioning vintage goods into modern creations. Local bands Lonnie Walker and Mount Weather will be performing.
An extension of the popular Rock & Shop Market, this new event offers attendees a shopping experience with the same cool vibe: beer, music & great shopping. Only this market has a vintage twist, each vendor's products are made from recycled materials. Shoppers can expect to find a well-curated selection of goods including vintage modern furniture, upcycled wearable fashions and jewelry in the beautiful Cotton Room at Golden Belt, a renovated textile factory in the heart of Durham. Grab a beer at the bar while you shop. Admission is $3. Everyone that attends is registered to win a gift basket featuring over $500 in vendor's goods. The first 50 attendees receive a free shopping tote.
The event is organized by Michelle Smith & Regan Wood both local designers and founders of The Rock & Shop Market. Taking cue from other hip, urban markets around the country like Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago and Bizaare Bazaar in Boston, the event was formed in 2004 in Raleigh as a way to highlight other emerging artists and support the buy local movement, a niche that had until then remained unfilled in the Triangle. In addition to producing these events they run indieNC an online shop that features products from North Carolina artists and curates window displays in disused storefronts in downtown Raleigh & Durham. They also offer creative design & marketing services for growing businesses through their joint venture Sprout & Flourish.
