Disc, Inc. Celebrates 27 Years in the Data and Computer Services Industry

Established in 1982 as Dimensions in Scanning and Conversions, this month marks the 27th anniversary of Disc, Inc., a computer services firm located in Houston, Texas.

Houston, TX, October 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- When she opened the doors of her company in 1982, founder Susan Coon focused on aiding businesses as they began the shift into the electronic era. OCR scanning of documents and conversion of data into electronic format were core offerings. Over the years, Disc, Inc. has evolved with the ever-changing needs of its clients to offer a full range of computer and data services.

Today, Disc, Inc. specializes in data recovery, conversions, CD/DVD duplication and replication, media packaging and related services. Recovery includes restoring lost files from backup tapes, hard drives, flash drives, memory cards and virtually any kind of digital media. Conversions range from transferring data from old zip or floppy disks to an electronic format to upgrading old VHS or Beta-SP tapes to DVD. Armando Saenz, Disc Inc.’s recovery and conversion specialist, notes that while the types of conversions continually change, it is a service that remains relevant. “When I started with the company in the mid 90’s, most of the conversions were from tape to tape. As companies upgraded their systems, they needed their data upgraded to a compatible format. While that continues to some extent today, many of the conversions now revolve around web friendly formats. We can convert their existing audio and video files into mpegs or other formats digitally optimized for online viewing.”

While online formats are increasingly becoming the norm, CD and DVD duplication and replication remain key components of Disc, Inc.’s business. Companies still have the need to distribute their materials in hard copy form. Sales and Marketing Manager, Nicole Harbour, says they have seen a shift in CD and DVD sales, but they are not going away any time soon. “CDs and DVDs still play a vital role in the marketplace. We have a large corporate client base that distributes everything from training documents and videos to health and welfare benefits on disc, to both domestic and international employees. Business card and mini-round CDs remain effective marketing tools to hand out at trade shows and networking events. Flexible DVDs offer direct mailers a cost effective alternative to bulky printed pieces. Not to mention local musicians who want to sell their CDs at shows or independent filmmakers seeking to distribute their work. The applications remain endless.”

Co-owner, David Carter, has been with the company for 20 of those 27 years and remains committed to staying on top of the latest technological trends. Before he and his wife, Carrie, assumed full ownership of Disc, Inc. in January of 2008, they carefully weighed the industry’s future. “Data has always been at the core of Disc, Inc.’s services and will remain so. It has been an amazing journey over the last two decades to watch the evolution of technology. We are constantly exploring new directions to make sure we remain at the forefront of data and computer services”, explains David. He adds, “Our tagline is restore.recover.replicate. We can restore what you thought was lost, recover what you thought was damaged, and then replicate your material so you have plenty of copies on hand for next time.” When asked if that tagline will change in the near future, the owners agree. “Most likely,” says Carrie. “Susie did a great job of guiding this company for the first 25 years. She adapted to the changing industry and we will do the same. We can’t predict what’s in store for us ten years down the road, but we plan to be here, providing our clients with the same quality and service they have come to depend on.”
