Volusia Manufacturers Association First CEO, Lou Fifer, Remembered for His Amazing Contributions
Volusia Manufacturers Association fondly remembers founding CEO/President, Lou Fifer, for his achievements resulting in the strong organization the Volusia Manufacturers Association is today.
Ormond Beach, FL, October 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Volusia Manufacturers Association (VMA) remembers its first CEO, Lou Fifer, for his remarkable contributions to the organization, creating successful practices and encouraging a united assemblage for Volusia and Flagler County Manufacturers.
Louis Junior (Lou) Fifer, 86, Ormond Beach, who retired as chief executive officer of the Volusia Manufacturers Association in 2005, died Thursday, August 13, 2009, after a courageous fight to overcome the results of a massive stroke he suffered in 2006. Lou Fifer was born on May 15, 1923 in Joliet, IL to Esther Tackenburg and J. Louis Fifer.
Lou lived a rich and glorious life, giving his full measure to everything. He played trombone professionally with a variety of stage, dance, and big bands, including Lawrence Welk, where he was in charge of the bubble machine. He served as a Commanding Officer in the U.S. Navy on the USS YMS 313 and as a minesweeper in the Pacific during World War II. He graduated from Drake University with a degree in business and finance. He was a Savings and Loan Executive from 1948-1980.
In 1980, he became the founding President/CEO of the Volusia Manufacturers Association. Volusia Manufacturers Association was just starting at that time, and Lou was a man wearing many hats, becoming the first Executive Director, Membership Salesman, Recording Secretary and many other titles. Lou did everything to progress the VMA. During his leadership, the VMA flourished, starting with 20 charter members and expanding to 170 Manufacturing and Associate members when he retired in 2005. He was a man that made a difference in many peoples' lives by mentoring them, connecting them to information, jobs, and people. He lead the VMA for 25 years and will always be remembered for making this association successful and creating the network for Volusia and Flagler County Manufacturers, uniting them to work together to support each other for success locally and internationally. He was succeeded in his role by his wife, Jayne C. Fifer, elected President of VMA in 2005.
