More Sport Pilots Take to the Air with Travers Aviation Insurance

Sport pilot certifications are becoming more popular because of the straightforward certification process for flying sport aircraft. Travers and Associates is a premiere aviation authority specializing in sport aircraft insurance.

St. Louis, MT, October 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Obtaining most pilot licenses can be a lengthy and expensive process. However, the FAA’s new sport pilot certification allows individuals to obtain flying licenses in less time and for lower costs than what is required to obtain a private pilot license. As such, this emerging new segment has become an optimal way for inactive pilots, who may have stopped flying for financial reasons, and for the large group of individuals who want to learn to fly to be able to start flying.

“The sport pilot certification process is considerably shorter and more affordable than the process to obtain a private pilot license, as a result, more and more new pilots are starting in these types of planes,” said Chris Travers, sales manager for Travers and Associates and a third generation aviation insurance agent for the company. “Sport aircraft fit into a few categories: single engine airplanes, weight shift controlled aircraft and gliders. These types of aircraft are generally quite simple to operate, and so organizations such as the EAA are encouraging the growth of this type of hobby flying.”

To obtain a sport pilot license, individuals need a valid driver’s license. Unlike private pilot licenses, no additional FAA medical examinations are required. In preparation, individuals are required to complete 20 hours of training, as opposed to 40 hours for a private pilot license. The 20 hours of training include dual flying with an instructor, cross-country flying and supervised solo flights. Prospective pilots will also need to take a written examination and will undergo an oral and practical flight test at the conclusion of the training period. Once certified, the new pilot will want to obtain aviation insurance specific for the sport pilot and aircraft.

“It’s important that your aviation insurance program be aligned with your specific flying category and needs. We quote insurance rates based on the value of the plane and the pilot’s experience and the risk factors. Because sport aviation is typically safe and most sport airplanes are reasonably priced, insurance rates for sport pilots tend to be very affordable. We can work with sport pilots to put together a comprehensive program based on their experience and how often they fly in order to provide exceptional insurance coverage specific to their needs,” said Chris Travers.

Sport aircraft flying represents a huge area of growth for the aviation industry, allowing many more individuals to take part in the thrill and enjoyment of flying. Obviously, maintaining safety in the skies and safety of pilots is at the forefront of this burgeoning segment. Travers and Associates is an expert in sport aircraft insurance and their extensive network in the industry allow their aviation insurance specialists to develop plans that meet a sport aircraft pilot’s needs without being prohibitively expensive.
