New York, NY, October 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Placido Domingo:
My Greatest Roles
Volume 1: Puccini
Kultur announces the DVD release of Placido Domingo: My Greatest Roles Volume 1: Puccini. This 3-DVD set will be available on November 10, 2009 for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
This three opera set includes the greatest roles of Placido Domingo composed by Giacomo Puccini, Tosca, Manon Lescaut and, La Fanciulla Del West.
Tosca: This highly regarded “live film” production features contemporary Rome as the setting for this innovative version of Puccini’s Tosca. Performed in the Roman locations- and at the same time of day-as Puccini had written into his score: in the 16th century church of Sant’ Andréa della Valle at noon, the nearby Palazzo Farnese that evening and finally at Castel Sant’ Angelo early the following morning. The story and characters of Tosca are largely fictional, but the trappings of satellite technology endowed this production with the same sense of partial reality as a TV news clip .Mr. Domingo is accompanied by Catherine Malfatano in the lead role, and it is conducted by Zubin Mehta leading the Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of Rome RAI.
This set also reprises Placido Domingo’s roles as Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut with Dame Kiri Takanwa and conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, and Ramirez in La Fanciulla Del West with Carol Neblett and conducted by Nello Santi with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera.
