RedVector, Inc., the leading provider of online education for the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industries, and the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design are pleased to announce a new addition to the prestigious University of Tennessee Online Certificate in Sustainable Design and Green Buildings program with “Green Design: Introduction to High Performance Building Design.”
This 4-hour interactive online course explores the relationship between building energy use and the larger issues of climate change and environmental degradation, and lays out the position of numerous influential government and industry agencies about culpability in the global warming debate.
The author of the course, Dr. Richard Kelso, P.E., NCEE and a professor at UT’s College of Architecture and Design, reviews the current sources of energy for buildings and their environmental effects, describes how buildings use energy, explains how energy can be produced by buildings, and takes an in-depth look at a host of other relevant topics. In addition, he explains how to implement the LEED Version 2009 Energy and Atmosphere credits and integrate them into project design. “We’re especially excited about building up our University of Tennessee Online Certificate program because it’s becoming more apparent every day that, far from being a passing fad, sustainable design and green building practices are evolving from necessity, “ says Ryan Sparks, RedVector’s Vice President of Content. “The global community has recognized the need for reforms that are changing the face of the industry, and we’re fortunate to be able to present the kind of high-caliber information you get from pioneering scholars like Dr. Kelso.”
The course is the eighth course to be launched as part of RedVector’s exclusive University of Tennessee Certificate in Sustainable Design and Green Buildings Level 1 program. The certificate is made up of 10 courses for an estimated total of 25 hours, and was developed to deepen students’ knowledge of the LEED measurement system, broaden their sustainable design skills, and start them thinking about green strategies. Students who purchase the certificate program are also given access to free LEED AP exam prep materials.
