Unique New Music School Opens in Pensacola, Florida: Gulf Coast School of Rock Brings Performance-Based Music Instruction to the Northwest Florida Area

Pensacola, FL, October 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Jim Brown, a professional touring musician with 15 years of experience in performing and teaching music, has established the Gulf Coast School of Rock at 1010 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, Florida, to teach guitar, voice, drums and bass lessons to both adult and youth students. This music school offers a unique approach to music instruction: students will learn both individually and as part of a band. Additionally, the school features a recording studio onsite so that students can learn about music recording and produce their own CDs. The fall session for youth students began September 1, 2009, and will culminate in a live performance of all of the school’s bands, at a real music venue. Gulf Coast School of Rock is open year-round.

Students can join Gulf Coast School of Rock at any time. All lessons are taught by professional musicians with years of performing experience, and include guitar lessons, bass lessons, drum lessons, and singing lessons. Students from all over the Northwest Florida and Southeast Alabama area are welcome, including Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Pace, Milton, Navarre, Atmore, Baldwin County, Escambia County, Santa Rosa County, and Okaloosa County.

Gulf Coast School of Rock is open to music students of almost all ages--9 and up--and any skill level, from beginner to advanced. Youth music lessons are currently available in 30-minute slots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. Adult music lessons are by appointment, and students can choose the time and length of their sessions.

“What is different about Gulf Coast School of Rock is that our students not only learn to play and/or sing, they also learn how to work together as part of a band and how to perform. Lessons are a fun mix of individual guidance and group playing. And if students are interested, we can help them write, perform and record original songs,” said founder Jim Brown, who also continues to perform live around the Southeast with his band, Big Jim Brown, and has produced four CDs of original music. “When they’re ready, we will hold a live show, and our students will perform onstage for their family and friends at a local venue. Preparing for the show teaches them how to plan for a performance, choose songs, rehearse, perform onstage, set up and run the necessary equipment, and promote a show. Perhaps most importantly, they have fun in the process.”

The environment at Gulf Coast School of Rock is relaxing and no-pressure; the emphasis is on enjoying oneself and playing for the pure pleasure of playing. Lessons are customized for each student’s skill and comfort level.

“Gulf Coast School of Rock students will learn how to play/sing and gain a greater understanding of music in general, but the real payoff comes from the self-confidence they develop as a result of the program. Our instructors—most of them also fathers—know how to foster a sense of achievement and give gentle guidance and positive feedback to keep the learning process fun and fulfilling,” says Brown.
