Letting Loose the Monkeys
John Gorman has decided to focus on the scene where Benny teaches his prized monkey, Thelonious, to throw darts as a way to win over new readers. After a ballyhooed showing at Telephone Bar, Gorman is slated to read from "Shades of Luz" at The Cell.
New York, NY, October 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- After a smash hit at Telephone Bar John is set to read from "Shades of Luz" at The Cell in Chelsea on December 13th. John has read there before. Earlier this year he read from his short story "A New Wall." Karen Heuler, author of "Soft Room" co-hosts the event with Page Reading founder Wah-Ming Chang.
John has decided to "Let the monkeys loose," Gorman said with regards to his next reading. "I introduced everybody to Benny and Luz at Telephone Bar, but I want to share a scene with Benny teaching his prized monkey Thelonious for next time. I think its a scene charged with emotion and who doesn't want to see a monkey playing with darts. That's off-the-hook."
With the move to do more and more podcasting nowadays and blog radio John has decided to include the more traditional book touring method. He will begin adding audio to his website shortly, but right now there are a host of great venues that are doing exciting things with the lit scene.
"Things are multimedia now," Gorman said. "Take for instance an event I attended at Bowery Electric last week. Anya Ulinich, the author had a Q and A with Opium impresario, Todd Zuniga which was followed by a concert by upcoming star Zee Avi. That's happening. It's weird, I love to hate readings sometimes, but I do them to get facetime with the audience, but when you have a cool venue or an MC who lets you do something original that's when the crowd really digs the vibe."
The Join The Shades of Luz Book Tour blog has been gaining more followers and John is not taking his eye off the prize, getting more people to come on board. "I am going to be both in the physical and cyber public for as long as it takes. Man, this is only the beginning."
