On A Dime Wants Change, Meets Buffalo Mayor
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown declares October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Local business owner is 22 year domestic violence survivor who chooses to reach out.
Buffalo, NY, October 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- On A Dime Installations President, Suzanne Perry, let her voice be heard Thursday at Buffalo City Hall with Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown officially proclaiming the month of October as Domestic Awareness Month.
Ms. Perry said, “I shook Mayor Brown’s hand and said, ‘I am Suzanne Perry, I have a telecommunications company called On A Dime Installations and I am a domestic violence survivor and advocate.’ He thanked me.”
“This is not a reason for celebration. The purpose of raising awareness for me, is to reach out to those that feel isolated and hopeless, like I once did. I wished someone could have come and rescued me. Now, I offer my story, my ear, whatever it takes to help reach someone who feels there is no one “out there.” I joined domestic violence Facebook pages to offer support and last weekend, someone did reach out to me. I was so touched. If I can help one, I surely can help many," she stated.
"Up until recently, I decided to keep quiet about my past. After sharing my story with a few people, the support and encouragement was overwhelming. For 22 years, I was robbed of my freedom, my dignity, and my self-worth. November this year will mark my 2nd year of having my freedom restored. I used to cry at night to myself, asking what I possibly could have ever done so wrong to deserve this? Today, I burn to help others. I have all this energy and wasn’t sure how to direct or distribute it. I have my communications company and decided it would be a great vehicle to help raise Domestic Violence awareness. I am looking for sponsors. I will dedicate a page of my website to endorse those that help me.
I have a purple ribbon on my website that links to the NYS site. If I need to be a martyr, so be it. I think I was put here to help the hopeless, offer support, whatever it takes, I will do, to help these girls and women to know they don’t have to live in fear and silence.
Wednesday night I attended a meeting of the National Association of Women Business Owners “NAWBO” and met some phenomenal people. Next week I will be meeting with the Buffalo Niagara Partnership as well as the Greater Buffalo Partnership. I am so excited to be invited to these events to share who I am, talk about my company and what I bring to the table."
