Successful Single Parenting Workshop
Hillside, United Kingdom, October 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In our grandparent’s day the most accepted way to do family was to have mum, dad and children living together under one roof. ‘Nuclear’ family is still predominant today, however more and more we’re seeing families become ‘extended’ and through divorce, bereavement or choice, single parenting is becoming an accepted part of our social mix.
Single parenting, done with the right mindset, and often with an agreement to co-parent (so the father is active in the children’s lives although not resident in the same household) requires a unique set of skills. This week, a new workshop – to be launched nationally in 2010 – is being piloted here in Montrose.
Jennifer Broadley, an executive coach from London, and owner and founder of www.SuccessfulSingleParenting.com (and herself a single parent) is running a course exploring how extended family can be positive, healthy and beneficial for parents and children alike.
The workshop will challenge common assumptions around perceptions of Single Parenting and offer some positive and practical new thinking around 8 main topics:
Access – how to co-parent successfully and develop children’s relationships with both their parents wherever possible
Boundaries – how to shift expectations when parents no longer live together
Communication – how to talk with respect and clarity to your ex, your children and yourself
Dating Again – how do we integrate a new person into an already-complex family design
Education – keeping our children on track with their learning as they tackle massive emotional change in their home lives
Finances – who funds what? What’s fare? And how do we set this up finances to suit two households … and keep this topic open for review as the years progress
Group Support – who are the best people to support us in our single parenting and how do we develop those relationships further
Headspace (or mindset) - the key to success on all levels. How do we begin to develop a mindset that includes the infinite possibilities that we were born to live.
This workshop will be held in Knox’s U.F. Hall, Mill Street, Montrose. 10 – 12am (arrive 9.30am for coffee): Saturday 17 October; and again on Saturday 21 November. Anyone involved with Single Parenting or Extended Family is welcome. Please email, phone or text your name if you want to join Jennifer.
