James E. Lyons, Co-head of Skadden's West Coast Litigation Department Will Speak at GKC’s Teleconference on “ERISA & The Pension Reform Act of 2006”

New York, NY, September 26, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The Global Knowledge Congress, the leading producer of regulatory focused teleconferences has announced today that James E. Lyons, co-head of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP West Coast litigation department will speak at the upcoming teleconference on “ERISA & Analyzing The Pension Reform Act of 2006 scheduled for October 26, 2006 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (EDT).

On August 3, 2006, the Senate passed H.R. 4, the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (the "Act")1, which provides significant relief from certain of the plan asset and prohibited transaction rules under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. This new legislation would allow investment vehicles such as Hedge Funds to manage more assets from pension funds. What does this mean to Hedge Funds? How will employers cope? About James E. Lyons

James E. Lyons is the co-head of Skadden's West Coast litigation department, which is comprised of the firm's San Francisco, Palo Alto and Los Angeles litigation groups. Mr. Lyons' litigation practice emphasizes securities and corporate issues, directors' and officers' liability, international arbitration, and other complex commercial disputes.

Mr. Lyons has represented several major public corporations and financial institutions in corporate control contests on the West Coast and regularly represents clients in shareholder class action and derivative suits. He has defended public corporations and corporate officers and directors against claims involving disclosure issues in public filings and press releases and in challenges to directors' business judgment in a wide variety of industries, ranging from aerospace to utilities. He has also represented financial institutions against class claims involving complex financial instruments, such as derivatives.

Over the past few years, Mr. Lyons has taken the lead role in complex international arbitration for clients in the United Kingdom, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore. Between 1999 and 2003, four of these matters involved extensive evidentiary hearings resulting in rulings and final judgments under the ICC and UNCITRAL rules.

In the intellectual property area, Mr. Lyons defended a company against a claim brought by the Hells Angels alleging violation of their trademark, and litigated a dispute over the rights to "Layla," by Derek and the Dominoes. Mr. Lyons also has experience in civil RICO and multifaceted civil fraud litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He has contributed to publications involving RICO issues and has lectured on legal developments in RICO.

Mr. Lyons was selected for inclusion in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2006.

He received his J.D. from New York University in 1976 and his B.A. at the University of Missouri in 1973 (Phi Beta Kappa).
