The UOC - Open University of Catalonia - the Global Online University – Management of Language Diversity in the Classroom, Under Debate with Expert John Edwards
Professor of psychology at St Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia, Canada, John Edwards is to talk about Management of Language Diversity in the Classroom: What Teachers (and Others) Should Know on Monday, 19 October. The lecture, organised by the Linguamón-UOC Chair in Multilingualism, is to take place at the headquarters of the Catalan College of Doctors and Graduates of Philosophy and Letters (Rambla Catalunya 8) at 6pm.
Barcelona, Spain, October 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Professor Edwards has focused his research on the links between language and group identity. His field of study has moved from psycholinguistics (and paying particular attention to the way infants learn languages) towards a discipline known as the ‘sociology of language’, which sees language as an indicator of certain aspects of individual or group identity–how people and groups define themselves in terms of language.
The event is open to anyone interested. An English-Catalan interpretation service will be available.
Linguamón-UOC Chair in Multilingualism
The UOC and Linguamón-House of Languages jointly created this Chair with the aim of promoting research, training, information and documentation activities on multilingualism as a means for social and economic development.
It aims then to act as a forum for reflection and analysis of the role of languages and multilingualism in Europe and the process of globalisation in society, as well as a framework for international cooperation on academic training in the field. The Chair has organised other lectures with this aim in mind on subjects such as language normalisation or the lack of language skills in European companies.
