Business Coaching to Help Non-Profit See the Bigger Picture

Pro bono coaching will help Australia’s only major stand-alone kids’ film festival, Little Big Shots ride out major challenges caused by the economic recession.

Las Vegas, NV, October 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In a country dedicated to festivals for those aged 18 and above, a need was felt for a children’s film festival screening a mix of local and international children's shorts, animations, documentaries and child-produced films, with the best interests of children at its heart.

The founders of Little Big Shots thus began their journey to stage a major Melbourne international children’s film festival. Originally conceived in 2004, at a time when there was no such opportunity for kids and families on the Victorian cultural landscape, Little Big Shots today stands as the biggest and most highly-regarded stand-alone film festival for kids aged 2-18 in the southern hemisphere. It reaches thousands of children and families across Victoria each year.

“Our organization was conceived by a small team with limited resources; staging such an event was a huge but ultimately achievable challenge,” Executive Director Chloe Boulton said. “We were confident an event like this would work brilliantly on Melbourne’s cultural landscape and wielding clear intention, communication, passion, heartiness and confidence – we vowed to make Little Big Shots happen.”

The festival has grown to become a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the media literacy of young people, fostering children's creativity and showcasing the very best in filmmaking for, by and about kids.

Despite being Australia’s only major stand-alone kids’ film festival and a niche Victorian and Australian event, Little Big Shots is facing many challenges. It is currently working hard to weather the economic storm, which has posed a major obstacle in the way of attracting new sponsors. It has also been tough to generate enough cash to meet the human resources required to run it efficiently.

Now with the launch of ActionCOACH’s global cause-related marketing campaign, which is helping non-profits and charities all over the world raise funds through its pro bono business coaching program called Coaching for a Cause; Boulton believes they have a new set of hands to help them.

“I think Coaching for a Cause is a great initiative, which encourages non-profits to think outside their everyday activities and approach their business with a bigger picture and more focused view,” she said. “The kind of expertise, drive and influence a Business Coach can offer a non-profit organization is invaluable.”

The overall goal of the program is to help charities and non-profits worldwide raise at least $2.5 Million in additional funds.

Stefan Kazakis will be donating 6-8 hours per month as part of his pledge for Coaching for a Cause with the aim of helping to Boulton and her team get more sponsors and become more efficient.

“As a father of two very young boys, I understand firsthand the significance and benefits of such an amazing film festival, which has so much to offer in the way of social fabric and education for all children and families,” Kazakis said. “I also enjoy growing concepts and ideas from the ground up, particularly if there is benefit for children.”

Little Big Shots is focused on short films for kids plus plenty of competitions and opportunities for involvement.

“Our film festival is one of the year’s most exciting experiences for children and families,” Boulton said. “This is truly a film festival focused on films for kids, about kids and some even by kids to amaze and delight our future filmmakers and cinemagoers.”
