Nebraska PTA Holds 86th Annual Convention

Omaha, NE, October 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The 86th Annual Convention of the Nebraska Parent Teacher Association was held in Bellevue, Nebraska on October 10th, 2009. In attendance were delegates representing 100 PTA units, the Nebraska PTA State Board and the National PTA President Elect, Betsy Landers.

Attendees heard from Betsy Landers on how to create and retain leaders, Carol Ritter of caroltalks.com who spoke about the importance of membership and Maile Ilac-Boeder of the Aurora Center who discussed how to balance work, life and volunteerism. Members also heard from outside agencies such as MADD, Keep Nebraska Beautiful and the Anti-Defamation League on programs that can be instituted within their schools. There was also time for units to network.

During Convention, the delegation elected Jennifer Mitzelfelt of Fremont Nebraska to serve a two year term as President-Elect. Mrs. Mitzelfelt will serve this position with the current President, Melani Luedtke-Taylor of Bennington, NE. Elaine Stough of Bellevue was awarded the Nebraska PTAs highest honor, the Nebraska Spirit of PTA Award.

The Nebraska PTA was founded in 1922 to serve the children and parents of Nebraska. With over 100 units and 8000 members, the Nebraska PTA focuses on improving the education of youth as well as guiding and coaching parents.
