D & R Energy Services is Helping Communities by Saving Historical Sites

Historical Sites are our past.. why not our future too.

Detroit, MI, October 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- D & R Energy Services, Inc. is helping to revitalize local historical hydroelectric sites.

D & R Energy Services announced today that they will be working closely with local restoration committees to help in the revitalizing of three hydroelectric plants in Southeast Michigan. Two of these are powerhouses built in the 1930’s by a prominent figure in Michigan history and the third is a hydroelectric dam from around the turn of the century. Robert Craig of D & R Energy states, “These power plants were shut down about 50 years ago when it was actually cheaper to buy electricity then to make it, how the times have changed”. He goes on to say, “Maintenance cost were on the rise due to the age of the equipment and buildings upkeep, so they were shut off and the buildings boarded up.”

Fund raising has started on one of the powerhouse projects where Robert donated a weekend to meet with members of the community to explain how a new generator and turbine will be installed and how the electricity will be used to light the village park and power the village water supply. “People were amazed by what could be done to restore the site and help offset the electric bills the village pays each month for these services, and the return on investment would be approximately 3 years”, added Robert.

The other powerhouse site and the dam site are still in the preliminary stages but look very promising. Meetings will be held with local officials in the near future where plans will be laid out as to how the restoration process will take place and how the power generated could be used.

Talks are also moving forward with a historic dam site in the New England area where some local officials want to breech a dam that was built in the 1860’s because it would be too costly to repair and maintain. Local citizens contacted D & R Energy asking if anything could be done to help save this site from the jackhammers. Preliminary studies show that it may be possible to install a small hydroelectric plant at the dam location and produce enough power to pay for the repairs and upkeep of the dam and also add revenue to the village. More about this project will be announced.
