MÉTIS Calls Petitenget Home, Welcomes Guests to Sensory Dining Experience in Bali, Chef Owner Nicolas “Doudou” Tourneville Leads World-Class Team of Pioneering Chefs
Bali, Indonesia, October 21, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Today, the highly-anticipated MÉTIS Restaurant and Gallery welcomes guests to enjoy an entirely sensory dining experience borne of the pleasures of living. The 350-seat restaurant, bar, lounge and private dining today opens for lunch and dinner to offer diners exciting French Mediterranean cuisine passionately crafted by Chef Owner Nicolas “Doudou” Tourneville.
Chef Tourneville orchestrates a symphony of flavourful wit, and helms the pioneering culinary team of Executive Chef Arief Wicaksono and Head Pastry Chef Gilles Delaloy, who are equally adept at raising the eyebrows of the palate-fatigued. The restaurant offers a varied French Mediterranean menu of original cuisine made with sumptuous ingredients. Starters include King Crab and Seaweed Ravioli with White Truffle Beurre Blanc and Grilled Fresh Japanese Scallops with Gratined Sea Urchin Sauce. Main courses feature a memorable Morocan Lamb Rack Mechoui served with Pumpkin Couscous or a Fresh Scallops and Prawns Provençal with Baby Roasted Potato, Asparagus and Shimeji Mushrooms.
“Before the close of Kafe Warisan on October 3, my business partner, Said Alem, and I decided to paint a new French Mediterranean landscape that would offer a varied menu of classic, inspired and mouth-watering dishes but with a bit of flair,” Chef Tourneville says. “I welcome loyal Kafe Warisan patrons as well as new friends from across the world to share in my life-long affair with food in an elegantly comfortable ambiance.”
A classically-trained French chef, Tourneville’s passion for painting savory landscapes on plates began at the age of 15 with his first apprenticeship. He then graduated from the renowned Cooking School of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry at age 17; moved to England where he cooked for intimate restaurants and small private castles; then the French Embassy in London. During his tenure, he made lunch for the Queen Mother. Tourneville’s French military service was spent as the private chef for an admiral. The French Foreign Ministry was most impressed that they then sent him to Algeria, as the Head Chef of the French Embassy. He then ventured to the French Embassy in Jakarta where he tantalized palates once again.
During a trip to Bali, Chef Tourneville fell in love with the island and, fortuitously, noticed that there were no restaurants serving French cuisine. It was then he and fellow Chef Said Alem had a masterful idea – Kafe Warisan was conceived. Swiftly, the French restaurant became a Bali institution, and soon after world-renowned for consistently excellent cuisine. Kafe Warisan closed on October 3, 2009, to make way for all-encompassing MÉTIS.
At MÉTIS, the culinary artistry is gracefully complemented by contemporary colonial style, infused with elegant architectural design elements inspired by Indonesian batik patterns. Beyond the glowing fire-caldron-lined portochere flow open rooms punctuated by floor-to-ceiling glass walls encasing an art gallery and boutiques. Natural timbers and nature’s own elements embrace in a graceful synergy, creating a brilliant combination of earth-toned hues and clean lines set against the sweeping backdrop of Bali rice fields.
MÉTIS will open today welcoming guests to lunch service at 11:00 a.m., dinner seating at 5:00 p.m., with the bar and lounge open until 2:00 a.m. In the weeks ahead, MÉTIS will introduce new high tea, lounge and private dining menus.
