New CPR Application for the iPhone Launched by Code Red, LLC
Code Red is releasing an IPhone application to assist the lay rescuer with CPR. The application is fully interactive and utilizes the movement and breathing functions of the IPhone and ITouch.
Chicago, IL, October 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Chicago based Code Red, LLC, a national training center for the American Heart Association, announced Monday that it has launched a fully interactive application for Apple’s IPhone and ITouch. October is Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month and in recognition of the month, Code Red is releasing the application to assist the lay rescuer with CPR. The application is fully interactive and utilizes the movement and breathing functions of the IPhone and ITouch.
Each day nearly 1,200 people die from Sudden Cardiac Arrest and 1 in every 7 individuals will have the opportunity to perform CPR in their lifetime. It is important that the person not hesitate and know what to do. This application is the first of its kind in the CPR and Emergency Response arena. The application is fully interactive allowing the user to watch videos, practice the timing by tapping the screen and by simulating actual CPR by moving the device and blowing into the microphone. Finally, the application is able to provide step-by-step direction for CPR with audio and visual instruction under the “DO CPR” function.
The real unique feature of the application is the practice function. The user is able to practicing the timing of CPR by either tapping the screen as designated or by moving the unit. When moving the unit, the user will simulated CPR by moving the device up and down 30 times and then providing two breaths into the microphone. While the device does not provide the force that is necessary in CPR it does allow the user to practice the timing and watch the videos for actual CPR.
“While this application is fully comprehensive and interactive it is not intended to replace the classroom and certification process”, says Brian Leonard, President and CEO of Code Red. “We hope that this application will be used to provide the lay rescuer with some general lessons in performing CPR and provide refreshers for the certified individual”. The application, while not certified by the American Heart Association, does follow the 2005 AHA Guidelines.
Avaneesh Marwaha, Executive VP and COO of Code Red, stated that “this application is first of its kind, in that we really wanted to use the unique features that Apple has developed”. Avaneesh went on to state that “applications like this are intended to be for the user and by making it interactive the user will have a key take-away that we hope they will remember if they ever need it”. “While other applications may provide video or a power point for CPR, our application goes two steps further with practice and the ‘DO CPR’ function”. DO CPR provides the user with audio and visual instruction for CPR. DO CPR walks the user through each step of CPR, while allowing the user to pause the application when needed. This functionality makes the application fully comprehensive from education, to practice and finally to actually doing CPR.
