Comcast SportsNet to Showcase Exclusive Coverage of the 34th Annual Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday, October 25

CSN will Feature Participant Stories, Pre and Post-Race Specials, and Extensive in-Race Highlights

Bethesda, MD, October 21, 2009 --(PR.com)-- For the second consecutive year, Comcast SportsNet is proud to be the exclusive television network of the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). Leading up to the marathon on October 25, the network will feature exclusive stories during Geico SportsNight on a number of participants as they prepare for the event. On race day, Comcast SportsNet will air SportsDay Live from the Marine Corps Marathon at 7:30am, a 60-minute special hosted by Brent Harris and Jill Sorenson.

The MCM, also known as "The People's Marathon" is organized by the United States Marine Corps, and ranks as the fifth largest marathon in the United States and ninth largest in the world.

Since the race began in 1976 more than 380,000 runners, military and civilian, have participated in the marathon.

SportsDay Live from the Marine Corps Marathon will take Comcast SportsNet viewers to the race for all of the pomp and circumstance leading up to the start of the marathon at 8:00 am. Hosts Harris and Sorenson will interview a number of special guests including former Marine and television personality Montel Williams, MCM Race Director Rick Nealis, Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially enter and participate in the Boston Marathon, and 2008 MCM Winner Andrew Dumm. In addition to the prerace special, Comcast SportsNet will break into regularly scheduled programming every 30 minutes with marathon updates. After the race, Comcast SportsNet will have a number of post-race interviews. CSNWashington.com will catch all of the action live at finish line, where the there will be streaming video of the conclusion of the race. In addition, runners stories will be captured and featured on the website.

On Sunday evening at 10:30pm, Comcast SportsNet will premiere Marine Corp Marathon: The People’s Marathon, a 30-minute special recapping race highlights and results along with features and interviews with a number of race participants. Showcasing the spirit and dedication of MCM participants, the stories featured in The People’s Marathon exemplify the spirit of the race, including: Lt. Col. Alex Hetherington, a pilot in the United States Marine Corps who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and is being inducted into the 2009 MCM Hall of Fame; Kelli Barnes, a mother who lost her son to a rare form of cancer, Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia, who is using this race as a platform to raise funds and awareness for this disease which affects 25 to 50 people in North America every year; Congresswoman Jeanne Schmidt, representing Ohio’s Second District, who is running in her 80th marathon; and Luciana Duvall, wife of acclaimed actor Robert Duvall, who is running and raising awareness for the Robert Duvall Children’s Fund, which benefits impoverished children in Argentina through public works programs. Marine Corp Marathon: The People’s Marathon, will re-air on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:00pm.
