Honolulu, HI, October 24, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Savant Books and Publications LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii, publishers of significant books and enduring media for the 21st century, is pleased to announce the release of Tony Tame's new book, "The Village Curtain: A Jamaica Collection."
A collection of fictional stories, sketches and imaginary characters woven into the general structure of a novel, "The Village Curtain" is a peek behind the facade of what seems to be just another of the many sleepy coastal towns of Jamaica. Meet a village elder who practices a highly evolved system of ensuring guidance and protection, disillusioned providers of charity, sometime drug smugglers and a man who thinks the best way to harvest the ocean is to throw explosives into it.
Tame, born in Kingston, Jamaica has been associated with the marine industry since the mid 1960’s. After 1970 he became directly involved in the supply and service of equipment to the commercial marine industry in Jamaica. His lifelong interest has been the methods used in various types of fishing and the people who work in this field. Still active in this area, his fascination with these topics remains undiminished.
"All the stories, while fictional, have authentic origins and genuinely reflect the challenges and foibles involved in living in the West Indies," says Tony. "'The Village Curtain' examines a specific segment of West Indian, and in particular Jamaican society's use of culturally unique survival techniques and the private atmosphere which tends to be produced within small Caribbean fishing communities. I hope readers will enjoy experiencing the sharp contrast between appearance and reality in what seems so picturesque and idyllic a place as the West Indies where the outcome of the best charitable, official and bureaucratic efforts is always uncertain at best."
"The Village Curtain" by Tony Tame - 258 pages - 8.25" x 5." Color softcover. ISBN 978-0984117505. Suggested retail price $16.95. Released in Oct 2009 by Savant Books and Publications, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.
