Storm Smart Creates Training Curriculum for Job Creation and Industry Standardization

In an effort to 'self-police' an industry with no training standards or curriculum, Storm Smart Industries has joined efforts with the State of Florida to create appropriate training programs and core curriculum standards for all those who will receive licensing to install code-approved hurricane protection products.

Fort Myers, FL, September 13, 2006 --(PR.com)-- In an effort to create high skill/high pay jobs and meet the increased demand for hurricane shutter installations, Storm Smart Industries has developed a training curriculum for hurricane shutter installers. Although hurricane shutters are required by the Florida Building Code, there is no standardized training for the trade. Storm Smarts ‘on-the-job’ training program is the first of its kind. It’s designed to establish a certification process through the State of Florida, enabling an apprentice to “Learn and Earn”, receiving qualified training from both the classroom and the jobsite, all while earning a paycheck. Brian Rist, Company President, states “We’re excited about the potential effect this training program could have on our area and our industry as a whole. Instead of learning by ‘trial and error’, an apprentice can come to work each day, earn a living wage while being trained, and gain a lifetime of experience in a condensed period of time.”

An example of this training program can be seen at 10:00am, Friday, September 15, 2006. The Storm Smart team of Trainers and Apprentices will install the Storm Catcher Hurricane Wind Abatement Screens on the City of Cape Coral’s Council Chambers at 1015 Cultural Park Boulevard, Cape Coral, Florida.

This installation came as a result of Storm Smart securing the bid from the City of Cape Coral for hurricane protection using the Storm Catcher Hurricane Wind Abatement Systems. The screen is a lightweight geo-synthetic polypropylene mesh that blocks 97% of all wind and rain, while allowing for light to shine through. As a Florida Building Code approved product, Storm Catcher has been in the local marketplace for the past three hurricane seasons having successfully protected all known openings during Hurricanes Charley, Ivan, Katrina, Rita, and the myriad of other named storms.

Storm Smarts recent accolades include:
