Samurai Karate Studio Participates in International Climate Day of Action

Samurai Karate Studio participated in the International Climate Day of Action, sponsored by 350.org, by participating in a clean up project in and around it's dojo. 10 bags of trash were collected, along with old tires and plastic and glass bottles.

Columbia, SC, October 27, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Samurai Karate Studio participated in the International Climate Day of Action on Saturday, October 24th. This world wide event, was sponsored by 350.org; a group calling for carbon dioxide levels of 350 parts per million or less in the atmosphere.

According to their website, 350.org (www.350.org) reported that over 180 countries participated in this day long event, that included 5,200 projects.

Samurai Karate Studio owner and chief instructor, Sensei Chris Feldt commented, "While kicking and punching are an important part of our training curriculum here at my school, we also include self defense against the environment. This was an excellent opportunity to participate in a world wide event calling attention for the need to protect our environment and sending a message to our leaders in Washington, D.C. to consider stronger legislation to control carbon dioxide levels in the air we breathe."

The project included several SKS student and family volunteers that walked parts of Harscrabble Road and Clemson Road. The group also picked up trash in and around the Magnolia Pointe Shopping Center.

"When we started our project, it was raining pretty hard and everyone got pretty wet," commented Feldt, "But eventually the sun came out and it was beautiful."

The group collected over 10 bags of trash, including some old tires, lots of glass and plastic bottles.

"I was really proud of the younger kids in the group that walked with their parents," stated Feldt, "they worked really hard and I think we all learned a valuable lesson about the kinds of trash we create and the need for better disposal."

Samurai Karate Studio teaches a traditional style of Japanese karate to children and adults, ages 3 and up.
