Online News Channel WORLDbytes Challenges Austerity and Says Don’t Re-Invent the Blitz
London, United Kingdom, October 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Austerity now trips off the lips of every politician. They tell us cut backs and tightening our belts are the order of the day. This filmed report by the online news channel WORLDbytes interviews Jean, Doris and Andy, who lived through the Blitz in East London and tell us of the everyday hardships people had to put up with. They hope we’ll never have to go through that again.
It is popular today to hark back to the “Blitz spirit” to get us through the recession. This programme suggests aspiring to war time “make do and mend” ignores the real hardship people endured and won’t put growth back on the agenda. The Imperial War Museum even provides ten recession beating tips from the Blitz, so we take a look at the museum’s recreated 1940’s house and Home Front exhibition to consider their relevance for today.
On the streets of London, a short accompanying report shows the public are not at all impressed by politicians’ talk of austerity. What are people who already have very little supposed to cut back on? Should we all take responsibility for economic failure and share the pain? The public say no and so do we.
