Satterfield Organization Statement Opposing Property Tax Increase Proposal

Draper, UT, October 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Jake Satterfield, CEO of Satterfield Organization, a Utah-based financial services company, made the following statement this morning regarding his opposition to Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Carroon’s proposed $13.4 million property tax hike on 345,000 Salt Lake County families.

“Across Salt Lake County working families are facing increased expenses with an uncertain economic future. Their daily struggle to live within their means comes by sacrifice and tough economic decisions. Salt Lake County should be held to no less of a standard with its budget.”

“I commend Mayor Carroon for proposing several budget cuts, but they do not go far enough. Many of our clients are on the brink of losing their homes to foreclosure. Utah ranks 5th in the nation for foreclosure with numbers expected to increase by nearly 5%. Salt Lake County residents do not have any extra funds available for unnecessary government programs.”

“Even a cursory review of Salt Lake County’s budget causes apprehension at the tens of millions spent entertaining residents. As one of my clients recently told me, ‘I’m about to lose my house while the county is helping build a new place for polar bears.’”

“Many of our clients have lost any equity in their homes. If they are able to pay their monthly obligations it comes at the cost of drastic personal budget cuts or parents working multiple jobs, unable to spend time with their children. These families walk into our offices frightened, unsure of how they’ll pay for groceries, let alone recreation centers, horse parks and golf courses.”

“Quite simply, the budgets of hundreds of thousands of Salt Lake County residents would be harmed if the Salt Lake County Council were to pass this tax increase.”
