Education Connection Helps Veterans Taking Advantage of GI Bill Find Military-Friendly Schools
The passing of the new Post 9/11 GI Bill has caused hundreds of thousands of veterans to apply for college. Education Connection is prepared to meet the needs of this huge group of new students with inside knowledge on military-friendly schools and the best way to make use of their new benefits.
Boca Raton, FL, October 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- 300,000 veterans have applied for tuition assistance under the new Post 9/11 GI Bill and Education Connection is prepared to offer their services to the servicemember looking to go back to school. The company has inside knowledge on which online schools are military-friendly and offer huge discounts to veterans and active-duty.
The GI Bill program provides higher education and housing funding for any veteran who served 90 days or more on or after September 11, 2001. Beneficiaries of the bill may use the funds to pay for certification testing, enroll in undergraduate and graduate degree programs, or receive vocational training at VA-approved institutions nationwide, including 26 distance learning and online schools.
The amount of assistance available to each applicant is dependent on several factors, including time served and active duty or reserve status.
Under the new program, called Chapter 33, veterans may receive coverage for up to 100 percent of their tuition and fees. Funds were set to be made available on August 1 of this year, which resulted in high volumes of veterans enrolling in higher education programs in the fall semester.
The VA expects up to 440,000 students to apply for funding from the new program next year, a significant increase from the 305,000 who benefited from the Montgomery Bill this year, the Statesman Journal reported.
Additional opportunities for military students
Higher enrollments due to the new bill have inspired some schools to engage in other alliances and programs catered to veteran or active-duty students, Caller.com reported. Texas A and M at Corpus Christi joined the
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges consortium, which allows military to take courses at or near military installations, at sea or on Navy ships during their off-duty hours through correspondence or online programs.
Del Mar College has also announced it will charter the Del Mar Student Veterans Chapter of the American GI Forum, the country's first student chapter of the American GI Forum.
Many online colleges are also offering special tuition discounts for military students and other programs to help servicemembers adjust to academic life.
As schools continue to make education more accessible to veteran and active-duty soldiers, departments of the U.S. military are developing programs in addition to the GI Bill to create greater opportunities for their members.
The increasing number of financial aid options for former or current members of the military may allow active-duty or veteran students to obtain a higher education through convenient methods, such as online degree programs.
Education Connection can give these students the latest information on financial aid options. Their College Matching Tool can connect these students to military-friendly online courses that can help traveling, working or busy members of the military community complete accredited programs to enhance their qualifications on their own time.
www.educationconnection.com helps students find online colleges that are ideally suited for their academic and career interests, financial resources and lifestyles. Unlike Web-only matching services, Education Connection has experienced admissions advisors available every day to answer questions over the phone. Advisers can guide students through the process of selecting ideal areas of study and help them choose the best academic institutions for different degree programs.
