New Tour by Uncle Sam’s NY Honoring Heroes, Partners with Pat Tillman Foundation
New York, NY, October 31, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Uncle Sam’s Walking Tours is pleased to announce that the highly anticipated and sought after, Heroes of the World Trade Center Tour, commenced on Monday, October 26, 2009. Uncle Sam’s New York has decided to partner with The Pat Tillman foundation and in doing so donate part of the tour’s proceeds to them.
The Pat Tillman Foundation is dedicated to continuing Pat’s legacy of everyday leadership and action by supporting future generations of leaders – active and veteran service members, their families, and students. They are able to do so through the generous support of individuals like those members of Team Tillman whose support goes directly to providing scholarships and grants to Tillman Scholars around the U.S.
On Saturday the 31st of October, 40 members of the Pat Tillman Foundation will take the tour with two of Uncle Sam’s New York tour guides. The Pat Tillman foundation is in New York City this weekend for the NYC marathon.
Hunter Riley, the Director of Programs at The Pat Tillman Foundation says, “The Pat Tillman Foundation is privileged to have Pat’s story included in Uncle Sam's New York “Heroes of the WTC” tour. The foundation is honored to have Pat’s story told at the location of the events that brought to light the heroic actions of so many Americans.”
The World Trade Center was a symbol of New York’s financial dominance as well as an icon on the famous New York City Skyline. However, on September 11, 2001 this complex would become fixed in history as a symbol of the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S history.
Jared Goldstein, an Uncle Sam’s Tour Guide and the tour creator has said, “It is a huge and grave responsibility to provide guests with a meaningful and respectful experience of the World Trade Center’s past, present and future. Guests will be escorted through large site, and hear the sacred stories of those who stepped up when history slammed into their lives, including a flight crew, a custodian, the Fire Department’s Chaplain who is considered a modern saint, a security chief, an FBI agent who warned of the attacks and rescued children at the site, the widows who got us the 9/11 Commission, a millionaire football player who enlisted in the army (Pat Tillman), the Medical Examiners, the Firefighters, a local business that gave to the survivors, and the little chapel that survived to serve the rescue volunteers for six months after the attacks.”
The tour explores the twin towers came to symbolize the wealth and power of the world's financial market, and fell victim to the tragedy that was 9-11. They will take you on an intimate journey of the events leading up to and following the attack, through the eyes of the brave men and women who risked and, in many circumstance, sacrificed their lives as a result of that tragedy. Included on the tour will be a visit to the Fire Engine and Ladder Company 10/10, and nearby St. Paul’s Chapel. Guests will also have the opportunity to leave flowers at the 9/11 Memorial site.
The tour lasts two hours and departs daily at 2:30pm from 209 Broadway, outside the entrance to St. Paul's Chapel by the Heritage Trail Sign, between Vesey and Fulton Streets. Uncle Sam's New York will donate a portion of proceeds from this tour to the Pat Tillman Foundation.
