About the Author
After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, and while attending Woodbury College in Los Angeles, Mr. Smith operated a tavern of sorts in nearby Glendale. Upon graduation, he sold his lively establishment (The Sit ‘N Bull) and worked in the aerospace industry as an expediter. Bored, he moved on and became a sales analyst for a major food company, then was hired by a similar company as a salesman. He soon lost interest.
At this point in his unsettled life (and surviving a mid-life crisis of racing motorcycles), he began a fulfilling career in publishing. He worked for numerous leading publishing companies, mostly managing their marketing and circulation departments. He eventually became general manager, then president of a publishing company headquartered in Colorado, and he successfully expanded and diversified its operation. Wanting to pursue the less structured and more creative side of publishing, he resigned and moved back to California to write primarily fiction - and go sailing.
He had a play produced, then a screenplay optioned, but he disliked the working environment linked with screenwriting, so chose to concentrate on writing novels and short stories. Encouraged by his wife Irene, he wrote Stampede of Silver Turtles, and is presently completing another novel (Crisis at Eden Wells), and adding to a collection of related short stories (Tales From Dalton’s Place). Gerald and Irene now reside in Ventura, California.
