ACE Appoints Pic Walker as Executive Director
Oakland, CA, November 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- ACE :: Alliance for Climate Education, a national nonprofit that offers dynamic climate change education programs for high schools, today announced the appointment of Pic Walker as its Executive Director. Walker has worked with ACE since late 2008 as Deputy Director with responsibility for leading program development. Walker will replace Blakely Atherton, who has been acting Executive Director of ACE since its inception and will continue with ACE as Director of Development.
"Pic's work has been an invaluable driver in rapidly expanding ACE from a start-up to a national organization reaching more than 150,000 students in our first six months of operations," said Michael Haas, ACE founder and Chairman of the Board. "We're thrilled to draw on Pic's leadership and experience to continue expanding ACE's leadership role in climate change education."
In assuming his new role, Walker draws on a decade of experience in the environmental sector. Before starting at ACE he was a managing consultant at Blu Skye, a consulting firm which assists fortune 500 clients in developing sustainability and environmental strategies. Prior to Blu Skye, Walker worked at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation leading environmental research and development for new environmental initiatives. While at Moore Foundation, he was a charter member and co-developer of the Wild Salmon Ecosystem Initiative. Prior to the Moore Foundation, he worked with several conservation organizations including Conservation International, CI-Guatemala and Rainforest Action Network.
"I'm honored to take on this role at such an exciting time," said Walker. "In just a few months we've seen young people begin to make a real impact in curbing the risks of climate change. I look forward to expanding our programs across the nation to give more teens the opportunity to learn the facts and work toward solutions."
