Samurai Karate Studio, located in Richland Northeast Columbia, will be hosting a kick-a-thon on Saturday, November 21st, at 10:00am to raise money to defeat Diabetes. The public is invited to watch and donate.

Columbia, SC, November 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate Studio, located in Richland Northeast Columbia, recently announced that his karate school will be hosting a kick-a-thon on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 10:00am, to help raise awareness about diabetes and generate donations to help defeat it.

Sensei Feldt stated, "I am a member of MADDCAPP, Martial Artists Defeat Diabetes Community Action Project, an organization that is made up of martial arts schools across the country, dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes and helping to contribute financially to help find a cure."

MADDCAP was created by Andy Mandell, a man who has diabetes that was determined to do something about it. Mr. Mandell walked the entire perimeter of the United States meeting people and raising awareness about this disease and what you can do to prevent it.

Why Diabetes?

According to MADDCAP's website, "Diabetes is a chronic and preventable health condition that has reached epidemic proportions in this country. 24 million Americans have diabetes and one third of them don’t know it. An additional 57 million are at risk for developing the disease. If this disease is allowed to continue unchecked we’ll have over 66 million people with diabetes by 2025. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control estimates that one of every three children born after the year 2000 will get diabetes in their lifetime.

"We are doing the kick-a-thon because it is a very healthy activity for my students," commented Feldt, "but also to try and raise some money for this very worthy cause and Mr. Mandell's group, that does amazing work in the community!"

The general public is invited to attend this kick-a-thon and participate by taking turns kicking, or donating some money.

Samurai Karate Studio teaches a traditional style of Japanese karate to children and adults, beginning at age 3 and up.
