Balfour Beatty Construction Selected for $25 Million Contract with Guilford County Schools
Raleigh, NC, November 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In a joint venture with D.H. Griffin Construction, Balfour Beatty Construction was selected by Guilford County Schools to manage construction of $25 million in additions and renovations to Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, North Carolina. The school originally opened in 1959, and its renovation and expansion will help the school district support Guilford County’s growth.
Totaling 108,965 square feet of additions, the project will combine the existing Jamestown Middle School with parts of the current Ragsdale High School, expanding the high school’s capacity to 1,600 students. New construction will include an autism wing, a gymnasium with spectator seating, band and chorus rooms, a media center, and administrative offices. Renovations will include converting the existing middle school’s gyms to house classrooms, a kitchen, and dining facilities for the high school.
With a new front entrance off Lucy C. Ragsdale Road and Vickery Chapel Road, a central parking and drop-off circle will unite the campus. Central to Moseley Architects’ design, this circle will connect athletics, performing arts, media center, administrative, and academic spaces. The project is slated to begin construction in the summer of 2010.
“Guilford County Schools has recently begun to embrace the CM-at-Risk delivery method and we’re honored to be one of the first groups of construction managers to be selected,” said Johnny Rankin, Executive Vice President for Balfour Beatty Construction. “Our partnership with D.H. Griffin will truly allow us to create an ideal learning environment for the students and staff of Ragsdale High School in one of the top school systems in our state.”
Over the past 35 years, Balfour Beatty Construction has completed more than 25 million square feet in education projects throughout the United States in both the higher education and K-12 environments. Completed projects include Boca Raton Community High School in Boca Raton, Florida; Grady High School in Atlanta, Georgia; and the addition to Cary High School in Cary, North Carolina.
